Wisdom teeth pain?
Wisdom teeth removal Perth
Sedation dentistry or sleep dentistry is a treatment that allows you to minimise pain and discomfort associated with dental and oral surgery procedures. Patients who chose to use sedation dentistry will do so because they have a low pain threshold, are afraid of needles or are simply scared of the dentist experience as a whole.
Sedation dentistry can also be suitable for patients who have a strong gag reflex, have overly sensitive teeth and gums, or difficulty keeping their mouth open because of a jaw problem.
What exactly are wisdom teeth?
Your wisdom teeth are actually a third set of molars. They usually appear between your late teens and your early twenties but sometimes later in life. Many people don’t really have a problem with these extra molars, if they are properly positioned to allow good oral hygiene and if the teeth fit well into their jaw bone.
The problem arises when a wisdom tooth starts causing pain when it doesn’t sit at the right angle, out of your gums, or impacting other teeth. The typical consequences are tooth and gum infections, damage to the gums, roots or other teeth.
When your wisdom teeth are problematic, impacted, or causing pain or disease, we can help you with an expert and efficient wisdom teeth removal procedure.
What to expect with a wisdom teeth removal procedure?
Before we remove your wisdom tooth, we will use an OPG (an X-ray of the jaw). It helps us assess the area around the tooth, and this is particularly important when there is a close relation between your wisdom tooth and the nerves of your lower jaw and lip. Sometimes a CBCT (3D X-Ray) is required to plan the removal procedure in the most accurate way.
If you have to have a wisdom teeth removal procedure, the treatment can be simple or slightly more advanced, depending on how the tooth is impacted in your jaw. Some wisdom teeth can be removed simply. Other require minor oral surgery – in such a case, we may reflect the gum tissue away from your jaw bone, to then section the wisdom tooth into pieces so it can be removed as efficiently and safely as possible. Then we use resorbable stitches to close the gum for optimal healing.
